About us
The concrete idea of starting to produce wine takes hold in 2011 when we had the possibility to manage a small 7 rows vineyard made up of very old black and white vines. Abandoned for years by men and God, even after heavy pruning, we decided to avoid any treatment. So in 2012, in the oldest court of the village (also in a state of neglect), our first wine was born.
Why Pellagroso?
In this same court, in 1800, “Il Pellagroso” was printed. It was a popular, administrative and political newspaper that reported the economic and social hardships of an era in which the life conditions of the farmers were hard, but where the will to fight for a more human and just future was alive. It was also a protest newspaper, inconvenient to many, with no hair on the tongue. “Il Pellagroso” fought to impose a new way of doing agriculture, of living. Hence the name Vigne del Pellagroso ..
And then?
After years of experimentation between successes and failures in 2017, driven by passion, we rent a vineyard in Monzambano, an area with a proven wine vocation. Vines of merlot from 15 to 45 years for an extension of 1.5 hectares (organically grown since 1985) made sure that the Vigne del Pellagroso project came to life officially. From 2018 another 5.5 hectares of land have been rented and we immediately started the big conversion work with biodynamic preparations!
Not only wine…
In addition to the vineyards we take care of some hectares of land for the cultivation of cereals and vegetables. Every year the crops vary and a part is always destined to the sowing of flowers to further help the bees in their livelihood.
Foligodia, like Vigne del Pellagroso (the name changes but not the essence and the hands that take care of the land), was born with the intention of being able to have “live” food, closely related to the earth, rich, full of energy, of light. , therefore able to deeply nourish the human being and put him in a strong relationship with the environment.
